Working for Central Market for over eight years has allowed me to experience new and exciting food adventures. From exclusive Blue Fin Tuna wild-caught by hand with electric harpoons less than 48 hours before getting to sample it raw to having chef-crafted, authentic Central Mexican tacos with fillings like fried grasshoppers and huitlacoche, a delicious corn fungus that has an earthy taste, my food knowledge has grown and developed along with my art.
Events at Central Market usually focus on a region, a type of food, or a holiday and are based on the famous Neiman Marcus Fortnights, where, for two weeks in the fall, the entire store would transform into another world. We do the same for all our events. The store should feel like the customers are coming into a completely new and different store.
The scope of events usually includes a set of advertising materials given to Art Teams from a contracted advertising company and the Division Marketing team consisting of 5-6 posters, a banner, cardstock/letterhead, and some digital marketing materials. It is up to the Art Teams to create everything else, 20-50 hand-painted signage for displays and decor, product attribute signage, wraps for fixtures, menus, handouts, posters, directional signage, and any other decor items.
I lead the store in merchandising and sales planning for the events, establish the scope and create the project list for my creative team, and direct the execution of the event signage.
